Desperate Times Needs Desperate Measures

Happy Monday. Today’s blog is for everyone who needs to make a significant change in their lives.

Take a close look at the following 2 scenarios:

Scenario 1. A frog falls into a deep hole in the road and cannot get out despite his best efforts; all hope is lost. A few weeks later, the frog is seen by his buddies who are shocked to see him alive, knowing his past dilemma the last time he was seen. “How did you survive? How did you get out? We thought you were dead.” they inquired. The surviving frog said, “ Well. I gave up after several attempts to get out. I too thought I was dead, until I heard the sound of a 4 wheeler barreling down the road. That was my signal to get out of that hole. Didn’t even know I had it in me”

Scenario 2. A frog jumps into a water-filled pot on a stove which was turned off. And immediately enjoys the pleasure of his own space in the room temperature water. Oh how he loved it. He would wade, relax….wade, relax….wade, relax…..sunglasses on, sipping on a cold Pina Colada, and just enjoying the moment. Hoping that this newfound experience will last forever. The burner turns on under the pot (no pun intended), and slowly the temperature rises. With all the bells and whistles going off indicating it is time to get out, he ignores them. “What’s all this excitement about?” he thinks to himself.. “They just hate that I am having fun and they aren’t.” Eventually he dies a slow agonizing death when his body could no longer stand the extreme heat. The heat that he ignored because he was enjoying his current environment of pleasure at the detriment of losing his life.

The Great philosopher Hippocrates said, “Desperate Times Needs Desperate Measures.” Does these 2 scenarios sound familiar? Which action appeals to you?

Oftentimes, we live in scenario 2. Simply because it feels good, and the chase after that initial feeling when first jumped into the room temperature water was breathtaking. And society says, “If it feels good; do it! As the moments passed by, everyone on the planet is ignored, because they do not understand the current pleasure being experienced. I once had a client tell me that even his dogs would not come near him in active addiction, and that was when his lights came on.

For those in recovery who have chosen scenario 1, the 4 wheeler truck was a blessing. Amen! Oh what a blessing danger can be at times when fight or flight kicks in. When the wake up call to get out of the pity party and live… or remain and die as scenario 2 without even trying. I am confident that scenario 1 will always be the desire when one gets desperate.

Now here is the answer. Please…I beg you approach it with an open mind. In James 1:12 he says, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial (scenario 1) because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.. The word says in Matthew 6:8 “Do not be like them (scenario 2), for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

And he goes on to clarify your asking in James 1:5-8 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded (scenario 2) and unstable in all they do.” But there are some rules in asking as James 4:3 says “:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

So there it is. Are you desperate enough to call upon the Lord? Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (the foxhole).” Are you in trouble? What are you waiting on? Call upon Him, and he will answer your prayer. He is a Promise keeper! After all, nothing else has worked! Right where you are say, “Lord I am desperate for you.” And watch Him work.
